Looking Ahead: 2022 Marketing Predictions

2021 was another full year of twists and turns for the marketing world. The pandemic has shifted the way we utilize media and marketers need to be flexible and ready to pivot at any moment.  While no one knows what’s in store for 2022; we can identify current trends to help us plan for the new year.  Here at J Miller Marketing, we investigated the 2021 marketing trends and made our marketing predictions for 2022.

2021 Marketing trends:

Social media is the #1 channel used for marketing in 2021

  • TikTok has over 1 billion monthly active users, on average a user spends 89 minutes per day on the app

  • 56% of people visit Facebook to get information

  • 500 million Instagram accounts use Instagram stories every day

  • Snapchat users check the app 30x daily on average

Digital Audio Streaming

  • 68% of the U.S. 12+ population listens to digital audio each month which is 1 million more than in 2020

  • U.S. consumers are listening to more spoken word audio (podcasts) and less music according to a new annual survey

The Rise of Video

  • 86% of businesses use video as a marketing tool

  • 78% of people watch videos online weekly

Email Marketing

  • 77% of marketers reported seeing more engagement with email over the past year

  • Customers prefer emails consisting mostly of images

SMS Marketing (text message marketing)

  • 95% of text messages are opened within 3 minutes

  • Retail consumers are twice as likely to prefer texting over any other communication method

This leads us to our J Miller Marketing 2022 Marketing Predictions

  • TikTok will hopefully be available on a radius or zip code level in 2022

  • The “great resignation” will be alleviated by the end of the 1st quarter in 2022; however, employers will continue to focus on an ongoing “hiring” message to ensure they keep a steady flow of applicants coming in

  • Google and Facebook will continue to force advertisers into more automated campaign types that take control away from the advertiser and place it into the hands of their black box AI

  • The uptick in “Made in the USA”/ “Shipped in the USA” verbiage will continue to stick around to combat the supply chain scare

  • The options to do virtual events will continue to be a trend

  • Owning YOUR data will be the most important thing you can do as the Googles and Facebooks of the world take away your ability to target the ideal customer

We’re eager to see how trends evolve in 2022! If you want to make sure your marketing strategy is effective, we can help you explore the best channels for reaching your audience.
